Pet Foods and Ryan's Pet Foods is a 64 store chain of corporate
owned and franchised pet food and supply stores, located throughout
Ontario, the Maritimes, Northern Alberta and Quebec. We offer a unique
franchise concept that specializes in natural and wholesome pet food
brands. We also encourage owners to add unique and profitable concepts
to their stores, such as pet grooming salons and ‘Birders Nature
Nooks'.
Global Pet
Foods has been a franchise system since 1976. In 1995, Global
Pet Food Stores Inc. was incorporated by Jim Walker, founder and president,
and has been successfully selling franchises since it's inception. In
1997, Global acquired Ryan's Pet Foods and they have now joined The
Global Family of Pet Food Stores.
We have grown over
the last 25+ years to become one of the leading retailers in the pet
food business in Ontario . Future plans for growth within Ontario via
new store openings, other acquisitions and cooperative initiatives will
rival even the largest retailers. Our attention to site selection, detailed
store planning and quality hands-on merchandise management has resulted
in steady profitable growth within our family of stores.
PRODUCT
Our
system provides you with access to a vast line of pet foods, including
national and premium brands. We are very proud of our broad list of
private and controlled label pet food and accessories including our
own fully natural and holistic line of pet foods called ‘Nature's
Harvest'.
A recent article
published in Pet Commerce magazine, announced that: “In April,
Global Pet Foods, a franchise retailer with more than 40 stores
throughout Ontario, will launch ‘Nature's Harvest', it's own private
label all natural dog food. This launch, the first of its kind in the
Canadian industry according to company insiders, comes on the heels
of an internal study, which determined that company sales for holistic
and natural products increased by 500% over a three year period. Global's
new private label (with its human-grade chicken formula) is expected
to complement the numerous holistic products that the company currently
sells.”
MARKET
The specialty pet
food industry has experienced rapid growth over the past few years.
In 1992, sales in the United States were CAN$8 billion. In less than 5
years that figure grew to over CAN$20 billion, and will soon exceed CAN$30
billion. In fact, Canadians now spend in excess of CAN$2 billion on their
pets!
Annual sales growth
has been fueled by the same demographic trend that has helped other
sectors within our economy grow-the Baby Boom. Our customers are generally
either in their late 30's and early 40's with young children at home
(or those couples who have decided not to have children) or they are
‘empty nesters' in their early to mid 50's who are looking to
fill their now empty homes with companion pets.
When you add this
to the fact that more than 50% of all Canadian households now own a
pet, it's pretty easy to see that you could not have picked a better
time to become involved in the specialty food business!
ADVERTISING
To help build each
franchise owner's business, we coordinate all brand recognition campaigns
such as the production of promotional material for in-store signage
and bounce back coupons. We also create exciting radio campaigns that
air on major radio stations seasonally and participate in a number of
industry and retail trade shows to help boost consumer awareness.
The Global Family
of Pet Food stores have substantial purchasing power with volume discounts,
extended payment terms and monthly specials that are negotiated with
key trade suppliers quarterly.
